Peace & Stability in Uganda: Our Reality
Quick facts for 2025–2026 — understanding the context where we work
The Refugee Reality
Uganda hosts over 1.9 million refugees — the largest population in sub-Saharan Africa. Many live in Northern Uganda, creating a need for shared resources and social harmony.
The Hunger Link
In regions like Karamoja and parts of the North, up to 45% of households face food insecurity. Hunger is often a hidden trigger for local conflict.
Gender & Safety
Recent data shows 78% of women in certain northern sub-regions have experienced gender-based violence. Peace cannot exist if the home is not safe.
From Recovery to Resilience
Northern Uganda is no longer a "war zone," but it is still a "recovery zone." Village Synergy addresses these key challenges:
Wartime Injuries
Approximately 10% of people in Acholi/Lango are "war-wounded." Physical and emotional trauma still prevents people from working and thriving — we address this through MHPSS and livelihood programs.
Youth Education Gap
Only ~3% of refugee youth are enrolled in secondary school. Without education, young people are more vulnerable to recruitment into crime or violence — we bridge this through Imara and our skill hubs.
Gender-Based Violence
28% of community conflicts are linked to Gender-Based Violence. Our peacebuilding programs start with protecting women and children in the home, school, and community.
Health Impact (Projected 2026)
We turn high-level policy into high-impact reality for the Ugandan family
Our results compared to national averages.
Village Synergy's integrated health approach consistently outperforms national benchmarks — because we bring services directly to communities.
| What We Measure | National Average | Village Synergy |
|---|---|---|
| Hospital Births | 85% | 92% |
| HIV Medicine Adherence | 95% | 97% |
| Safe Latrine Coverage | 78% | 89% |
| Family Planning Use | 50% | 58% |
This year, we aim to reach:
- 3,000 people helped directly with healthcare and medicine.
- 8,000 neighbors reaching a better life through health education.
- 100% HIV support for HIV-positive mothers to ensure their babies are born healthy and negative.
- Stronger clinics: Connecting village homes to the nearest government hospitals so help is always available.
We work alongside Uganda's Ministry of Health to ensure our community-based programs align with national health policy and leave no family behind.
